This archive section presents a small selection of work from my ‘previous professional life’. Before taking on a full-time academic post in 1993, I worked in London from 1978 as a self-employed designer and illustrator, initially working in editorial illustration before developing the (self-taught) typographic skills that enabled me to get involved in publication design and book covers.
